Förderverein Burg Hofraite e.V. in Büdingen

Büdingen is located in the southeast of the Hesse Wetterau, about 45 km from Frankfurt, 25 km from Hanau and 55 km from Gießen. Büdingen can be reached in about 15 minutes via the A66 with the Gründau Lieblos exit or the A45 with the Altenstadt exit.

Büdingen has a rich and fascinating history dating back to Roman times. The first settlements in the region can be traced back to the 1st century AD, when the Romans left their mark here. Büdingen developed into an important trading centre in the Middle Ages.

The town was granted town charter in 1271 and flourished due to its location on important trade routes. The imposing town wall, which still surrounds parts of the old town today, bears witness to Büdingen’s importance during this period. An outstanding feature of the town is the impressive Büdingen Castle, which was built in the 13th century. It not only served as the residence of the Counts of Büdingen, but also as a strategic point for the town’s defence.

Over the centuries, Büdingen underwent various political and social changes. The town was a centre of the Reformation in the 16th and 17th centuries and played a role in the Thirty Years’ War. Büdingen is a place where history comes alive. Whether you take a stroll through the historic alleyways or visit one of the many museums, the town offers numerous opportunities to immerse yourself in its fascinating past.

An ideal location for our castle building project!
